Jammu, Feb 03 (KNO): Legislators of the ruling National Conference on Tuesday staged a protest outside the Legislative Assembly complex here, demanding the restoration of statehood and calling for an end to the harassment of Kashmiris in several states. Before the start of proceedings, NC lawmakers, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), converged outside the Assembly complex and staged a demonstration seeking the restoration of statehood. Carrying placards that read “Restore constitutional guarantees,” “Restore statehood,” and “Stop demonising Kashmiris,” the NC legislators protested for nearly ten minutes before the House assembled. The lawmakers vociferously raised slogans such as “Return statehood” and “Stop harassing Kashmiris.” Talking to reporters, NC MLA and party spokesman Tanvir Sadiq said the time had come to return statehood and constitutional guarantees to Kashmiris. “We are protesting against the injustice meted out to Kashmiris, whether it concerns constitutional guarantees or statehood. It is the appropriate time to restore the special status that was taken from us,” he said. Tanvir urged the Government of India to intervene and direct states to stop such incidents. “Our Prime Minister and Home Minister should issue an advisory to all states to prevent the recurrence of these incidents,” he said, alleging that the BJP was trying to create a divide between Kashmir and Jammu—(KNO)
